Facilitated bi-monthly girls group meeting, Mongla

Girls group’s bi-monthly meeting was held on March 5th, 2024 in Mongla. Its main goal was to enhance internal communication and foster discussion and exchange amongst girls group members. Total 19 girls were attended the sessions. Following the introduction session, team member briefed the participants about the purpose of the event. Discussions focused on combating child marriage and advocating for women’s rights. A five-member committee was formed to address social issues and to implement voluntary activities.

Strategies were discussed to sensitize others and raise awareness about the rights of girls and women. Participants expressed their concern about a member who stopped attending meetings after getting married. They also discussed about sports, with one member playing for the district football team. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks. The outcomes of the event are as follows: a committee was formed, social norms and attitudes were changed by four teenagers, one girl took proactive measures against harassment, eight teenagers joined disaster management committee, and twelve girls were empowered to confidently say ‘NO’ when necessary.
