Observed day `One Billion Rising’ in Dhaka and other districts

The “One Billion Rising (OBR) day was observed on February 13th and 14th, 2024, at Rabindra Sarobar, Dhanmondi 27, Dhaka & Central Shahid Minar Circle in Bagerhat, aimed to raise awareness and protest gender-based violence against women and girls. OBR day has been globally observed since 2013, and it has also been observed in Bangladesh since the same year. Participants, carrying with colorful placards and posters, enthusiastically chanted slogans denouncing violence against women. The event was attended around 30 adolescents, 120 women & 60 men. Notable organizations and individuals across the country participated in the rally and human chains, demanding an end to violence against women and girls. About 89 to 100 members attended the rally, 70 women raised slogans and held festoons against gender-based violence and nearly 200 participants enjoyed the cultural event. Moreover, it sparked interest among community members. Basically, the “One Billion Rising’ day encouraged people to speak up and learn about stopping violence against women and promoting gender equality within community.  After the event ended officially, Khusi Kabir, the Coordinator of OBR Bangladesh Chapter, expressed gratitude to Badabon for arranging such a fruitful event. She emphasized the significance of continuing efforts to combat various forms of violence against women in the future.
