Women’s action for climate justice programme organised 3-days long training focused on ‘community-level disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation’, May 15-17, 2024, at Bagerhat.
Training sessions aimed to increase local awareness of climate change impacts and enhance disaster preparedness. The 20 participants, predominantly young local volunteers (14 female, 6 male), engaged in sessions covering climate change causes, impacts on agriculture and livelihoods, and disaster response planning. Activities included group exercises to identify vulnerable groups and simulate disaster scenarios, emphasizing inclusive development and social barriers. Practical demonstrations at the local Cyclone Center illustrated emergency protocols, preparing participants to respond effectively during Cyclone Remal.
Post-training, participants applied their skills in the community, contributing significantly to disaster response efforts and demonstrating their commitment to climate resilience and inclusive development. This training not only equipped participants with practical knowledge but also empowered them to actively engage in disaster response, highlighting their pivotal roles in community resilience and sustainable development initiatives. Association for Land Reform and Development (ALRD)’s experts were facilitated sessions.
