Safety and care assessment workshops with women’s human rights and land rights defenders was conducted on June 1st and 2nd, 2024, at Manikganj. The workshop was facilitated to bring out women’s human rights and land rights defenders’ needs and constraints in safety, security and privacy aspects.
Sessions took the lead in addressing crucial issues of women’s safety, emphasizing personal, institutional, and social dimensions. Its insights into cyber security were particularly illuminating, stressing the need for proactive engagement by women to protect themselves online. Groups facilitated discussions where participants explored various risks associated with their day-to-day work like communicating with survivors, assisting group members, protest against land, river and water-bodies grabbing. Participants were divided into three groups to discuss: a) making a plan for the pre situation, b) making plan for during situation and c) plan in post situation.
These discussions were organized around specific issues such indigenous land rights, violence against women and economic challenges faced by women. Each group presented their findings and proposed strategies to mitigate these risks and enhance safety for women in vulnerable situations.
Participants were encouraged to translate the gained knowledge into actions in order to safeguard themselves and others in their communities effectively. This event not only provided practical insights into security but also fostered collaboration among women leaders and their networks. It served as a catalyst for ongoing efforts by Badabon Sangho and its partners to promote women’s human rights defenders’ safety and security.
