Women Workers Forum facilitated bi-monthly meetings on March 22, 2024, in Ruhitpur, Keraniganj, with 16 women workers. Meeting discussed the importance of saving earnings, safeguarding, working place safety, etc. Participants included 13 women members, who were migrated from different districts and settled in the urban slums, engaged in informal jobs with kids. They shared experiences and stories that are full of harassment and struggles.
The session began with the exchange of greetings and highlighting the needs of skill development and financial independence. Participants were encouraged to save money for future security, with options to open accounts with NGOs or banks. Despite concerns about their origins from different districts, 13 women committed to saving, while 4 opted to open bank accounts. The meeting emphasized the importance of savings for financial solvency and empowerment. Follow-up actions included inquiries about the well-being of the member facing abuse and decisions regarding savings strategies.
