Women farmers’ cooperatives observe `International Rural Women’s Day’, 15 Oct 2024

On October 15, 2024, women farmers’ cooperatives in Bagerhat observed `International Rural Women’s Day’ at the Bagerhat Press Club to recognize the vital roles of rural women in food production and sustainability. The theme, “Rural Women Produce Safe Food for All,” highlighted the contributions of rural women in agriculture, a field where they do not get proper recognition. Events were organized where 48 women farmers, including local leaders and agricultural officials, joined in a rally, with slogans calling for equality and highlighting the role of rural women in food security.  After the rally, a discussion held on raising awareness about land rights, safe farming practices, and fair agricultural opportunities for women. Women farmers leaders mentioned that women lack access to stimulus packages like farmers schemes, low interest loan, free seeds which limit their ability to farm commercially. Media coverage extended the event’s impact, promoting awareness of rural women’s needs and roles in the broader community.
