Safe Space and Handicrafts
Badabon Sangho has been facilitating Gender-based violence (GBV) survivors (i.e. women and girls)-led handicrafts production by using jute and bamboo. These handicrafts popular as home and kitchen appliances and gift items. It has own values, philosophy of life, fashion and self-image. Currently, two work stattions with safe spaces are managed in two areas i.e. Badalghachi and Mongla. By facilitating the handicrafts production the following specific needs and constraints are being addressed.
- Survivors’ women and girls face hate speech, stigma and social discrimination. They don’t have income generation activities and less movement in the public areas.
- Group don’t have fund to facilitate long-term GBV programme after phase out of the donor-funded project, especially provide legal and medical supports.
The programme is able to support long-term legal, medical and accommodation, travel supports to GBV survivors (i.e. women and girls) in GBV prone areas. Secondly, survivors able to engage in handicrafts production by extending the women and girls’ safe space, handicrafts production work places, and sales centre.
