Coordination meeting with male and female fisher-folk, Cox-Bazar, 17-18 July 2023

Purpose of the Meeting: To create awareness among fisher men and women about their rights.

A series of coordination meetings with fisher men and women at Brac Learning Center, Cox’s Bazaar on 17-18th July 2023 was arranged by the team of Badabon Sangho. Members of the organization and fisher-folk community, both male and female participated in the coordination meeting.

The advantages of having fisher-folk cards and the disadvantages of not having fisherfolk cards was discussed in the meeting. Ill-treatment of women fisher-folk such as paying 75% less wages, restricting for more profitable fishing opportunities etc pathetic subjects were mentioned in the event. Due to lower income the female folks are deprived of minimum health care and live under poverty line. In general, both male and female, in fact do suffer from poverty and severe heath issues due to climate change. The need for fisher women’s Cooperative Society was stated as well.   

Result: Fisher-folk were made aware of importance of having cards.
