A workshop was held on 25 Feb 2025 at the Officers’ Club in Mongla, where govt. officials and journalists, women fisher-folk leaders were participated. The discussion topics included i.e., fishing season, fisheries ID cards for women fisherfolk, alternative income in off-season, and other health related issues. Regarding the fisheries ID card and fishing, the Department of Fisheries representative said, fisher-folk who are fishing in the natural and state water-bodies (either river or sea) and depending livelihoods on it, will be eligible to get the fisheries ID card. Additionally, women fisherfolk should get the rights equally as men fisherfolk. Series of meeting and consultation regarding women fisher-folk rights eventually lead to positive outcomes for their rights. Women fisherfolk asked how they would receive training for alternative income during the off-season, while Department of Youth Development, said that everyone can take training from them. Upazila Cooperative Officer, Social Service Officer discussed financial constraints of fisherfolk and how the government can provide them loans up to BDT 50,000. With this discussion the consultation workshop ended.

Women federation leaders and women-led groups’ leaders organized
