On December 7, 2023, a power mapping workshop was held with participation of frontline women groups leaders. The workshop aimed to understand the impacts of embankment and dam created by the public authority in coastal areas. Prior to the workshop, a field visit to the affected communities how the dam adversely impacted local families. Discussions during the workshop with women in these families highlighted their upsetting living conditions. In the workshop following challenges were discussed like loss of agricultural land, fish scarcity, and livestock deaths.
The women expressed their hardship, emphasizing the drastic changes in their lives caused by the dam, leading to financial struggles and the risk of displacement. Two women groups and its members are becoming aware regarding climate change and its impact. They understand how development projects are implemented without community’s consultation.
