Engaging Youth in Environmental Stewardship: World Environment Day 2024 Celebration in Bagerhat and Southwest region

The World Environment Day 2024 observations in Bagerhat, Fakirhat, Rampal, and Mongla brought together hundreds of young women in activities like rallies, discussions, and tree plantings. Focused on the theme “Restoring the Earth, Protecting Biodiversity,” the event aimed to raise awareness about environmental conservation. Participants marched, discussed environmental issues, and planted 24 trees, emphasizing the community’s role in preserving biodiversity and promoting sustainability. In Bagerhat Sadar Upazila, girls started their rally from Dorger Mor, followed by planting of hundreds of trees. Similarly, a group of adolescent girls from Rampal Pilot School commenced their rally from the school grounds and returned for a discussion session followed by plantation of trees.

Meanwhile, in Mongla, adolescent girls assembled at the Badabon Sangha Office, initiating their rally followed by discussions on environmental issues and planting trees. Overall, the event underscored the collective responsibility and highlighted the pivotal role of youth in advocating for environmental stewardship, ensuring a healthier and more harmonious relationship between humanity and the natural world. Outcomes of the events include that girls participated in tree planting; hundreds of trees were planted in southwest region and World Environment Day observed.
